Every A/C compressor that comes off a car has two open holes where the refrigerant lines used to be. What happens in the next few hours decides whether that compressor survives — and whether your customer comes back angry. This guide covers the small part that decides it: the compressor cap seal plate (also called a port plate, port plug, shipping cap or, across Latin America, tapones de compresor).

1. What this part actually is

A cap seal plate is a two-piece assembly: a stamped steel (or reinforced polymer) plate shaped to the compressor's port face, with a molded rubber plug pressed through it. Push it onto the suction and discharge ports and it locks in with a friction fit — no tools, no clips. Three names, one function:

  • Cap seal plate / port plate — covers both ports with one plate (the version we stock, 40+ vehicle fits)
  • Port plugs / shipping plugs — individual rubber or plastic plugs for single ports
  • Service port caps — small caps for the charging ports on the lines themselves

All three do the same job: 堵住系统的每一个开口 — seal every opening so moisture, dust and oil loss stay out of the equation between removal and reinstall.

2. Why an open port is expensive

Inside every A/C system there is a bag of desiccant (in the receiver drier or accumulator) whose entire job is absorbing the last traces of moisture. It has a finite capacity. Leave a compressor's ports open in a humid workshop and:

  • Hour 1–2: humid air rolls into the cylinder and lines — the desiccant starts consuming itself
  • Same day: moisture + refrigerant oil → acids and sludge that eat windings and seals
  • On install: the "new" compressor runs a system that was poisoned before it arrived — and the warranty claim lands on the parts seller, not on the storage shelf

This is why rebuilders cap a compressor the moment it comes off the car, and why parts wholesalers cap everything in the warehouse. A plate costs cents; the compressor it protects costs $80–400.

3. Who buys them — and why they re-order monthly

Cap seal plates are a consumable, not a repair part. They leave inventory four ways, every week:

  • Workshops capping removed compressors during diagnosis (compressor out = ports must close immediately, even if the verdict is "just the clutch coil")
  • Rebuilders capping cores coming in and units going out
  • Parts stores capping every compressor on the shelf after opening the box for a fit check
  • Shipping — a compressor without caps cannot be exported at all (insurance and quality both demand it)

That is four independent repeat-purchase streams on a part with no price sensitivity to speak of. In our order data, cap plates and shaft seals are the two SKUs distributors re-order most frequently after their first trial container — which is exactly what you want from a container-filler.

4. Fitment: match the plate to the compressor family

Port faces are not universal — port spacing and thread pattern differ between families. Our series is fit-listed to 40+ vehicles and compressor platforms, including:

6. Ordering for resale: MOQ, assortment, packing

  • Trial MOQ 100 pcs per fit — or a mixed-vehicle assortment box (10 fits × 10 pcs) to test which vehicles move in your market
  • Nests flat — 1,000 plates occupy roughly one carton layer; freight cost per unit is negligible
  • Mixed-container loading — combine with compressors, valve plates and O-ring kits on one picking list; plates fill the gaps around heavy parts
  • Private label — header-card packaging available for distributors building their own consumables line
